MyMixedHeritage ("MMH", "we", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy.
This policy explains what personal data we collect through
www.mymixedheritage.com, why we collect it, how we use it, and what rights you
have.

​1. Who we are
MyMixedHeritage is an online project providing a space for interfaith families
and individuals, based in the UK. We are not a registered group, nor a charity. We are in the process of drafting our constitution so that we can call ourselves a proper (unincorporated) community group! 
We are the "data controller" for the personal data described in this policy, meaning
we decide how and why your data is processed.

2. What personal data we collect
We collect different data depending on how you interact with us:
a) Contact form (Contact Us page): First name, last name, email address, and the
content of your message.
b) Newsletter subscription: Email address, and first/last name if provided, when
you tick "I want to subscribe to the mmh newsletter."
c) Steering Group applications (Get Involved page): Name, email address, and your
answers to the application questions (why you want to be part of MMH).
d) Booking a talk / proposing a collaboration: First name, last name, email address, and any
information you share about your organisation or event.
e) Website usage data Our website is built on Wix, which automatically collects
technical data (IP address, browser type, pages visited, cookies) for security and
analytics purposes. See Section 8 (Cookies) below.

f) PhD research participation: this handled separately If you contact Dalia El Ariny
to take part in her PhD research ("Navigating Multiple Religious Belongings in
London," SOAS University of London), this is governed by a separate research
consent process and SOAS's research ethics approval, not by this policy. No
information you share with MMH as a community member is automatically used
in this research. If you choose to take part in the research, you will be asked for
explicit, informed consent through a dedicated process before any data is
collected or processed for that purpose, and you will be told separately how that
research data is stored, used, and protected.

We want to be direct about one thing: religious belief is classified as "special
category data" under UK GDPR, meaning it carries extra legal protection. Where
we or the PhD research process this kind of information, we do so only with your
explicit consent, and only for the specific purpose you consented to.

4. Who we share your data with
Wix.com – our website host and form provider, which processes data on our
behalf as a data processor.

Google Drive – used to host and share documents such as the Interfaith
Toolkit; if you access shared documents, Google's own privacy terms apply
to that interaction.
We do not sell your personal data to anyone, ever.
We do not share your data with third parties for their own marketing
purposes.
Where our service providers (e.g. Wix) store or process data outside the UK/EEA,
they do so under standard contractual safeguards recognised under UK GDPR.

5. How long we keep your data

• Contact form enquiries: kept for as long as needed to respond, then deleted within [12 months] unless you become an ongoing contact (e.g. newsletter subscriber, collaborator).

• Newsletter: kept until you unsubscribe.

• Steering Group Applications: kept for the duration of the recruitment process, thendeleted within [6 months] unless you are appointed.

• Research data: retained according to the retention schedule set out in the separate research consent and SOAS's research data policy, not this one.

 

6. Your rights 

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you

• Correct inaccurate data

• Delete your data ("right to be forgotten"), where applicable

• Restrict or object to certain processing

• Withdraw consent at any time (e.g. unsubscribe from the newsletter) without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal

• Data portability, where technically applicable

• Complain to the UK Information Commissioner's O"ce (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you believe we have mishandled your data

7. Children
MyMixedHeritage is not directed at children. Our PhD research specifically

requires participants to be 18 or older. If you believe a child has provided us with
personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.

8. Cookies
Our website, built on Wix, uses cookies for essential site functionality and may use
analytics cookies to understand how visitors use the site. 

9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top
will always reflect the most recent version. Significant changes will be highlighted
on this page.
